We accept original, unpublished fiction, novel excerpts and poetry from new and established writers of any genre except erotica. As well, we accept artwork. We look for works that push the boundaries of what the reader is used to reading. We like experimental works, works with darker themes including existential themes, themes about life and death, mental illness, unhappiness, philosophy and anything that looks at the world with a unique perspective. Works don’t have to be limited to these themes, however. We like things that take risks in their subject matter, perhaps going beyond the borders of what the average reader might consider pleasant subject matter. In our case, unpleasant subject matter is considered a good thing. Non-conformity is a good thing. If your writing sounds like it fits in with that, we’d love to see it and consider it for Cerulean Rain.
We accept email submissions only. We are now accepting submissions for Issue 3, January 2009. Because the next issue is several months away, responses to submissions will likely not start until November or December. Please don't email us asking us about your submission until after 3 months have gone by.
Poetry Submissions for issue 2 are still being accepted until July 31, 2008. The submission period for artwork and fiction for issue 2 is over.
General Guidelines
- First and foremost, please read about Cerulean Rain, what we are about and what we are looking for before you submit and don’t submit works that you think do not fit with this literary magazine.
- We are accepting multiple submissions (submitting more than once before receiving our response) at this time.
- We accept simultaneous submissions but ask that you let us know as soon as your work is accepted elsewhere. Please tell us in your submission email if this is a simultaneous submission.
- We do not accept reprints.
- Please submit all works in a single .doc or .rtf document attached to the email. Please put author's name in the file and also in the filename (accept for artwork -- see below). Please leave work single spaced.
- Please include a short biography of less than 200 words in the body of the email.
- Let us know in the body of the email if you have had work published before, what and where.
- We ask for one time electronical publication rights only. All other rights revert to the author once their work is published.

Fiction:

- Must be 7,500 words or less.

- We prefer free verse poetry, but also accept prose poetry. We are not fans of rhyming poetry or haikus.
